Everyone have heard about Dubrovnik by now, but I bet you did not know that shortly after the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the Americans sought allies in European countries to establish trade and diplomatic relations, and one of the first states to succeed was the Republic of Dubrovnik. The pharmacy in the Franciscan monastery in Dubrovnik, which has been operating continuously from 1317 to the present, is the third oldest in Europe. In Britain, for example, slavery was abolished only in 1833 and in the USA in 1865.

Croatia is responsible for necktie. The tie was initially the name for a neck scarf that identified Croatian soldiers who fought under the French flag in the Thirty Years’ War (1618 – 1648). Croatians love to sing with a glass of wine and entertain their guests. Klapa singing is traditional Croatian vocal music originating from the south of Croatia (Dalmatia), mostly from coastal and island regions. UNESCO recognized this value and protected Dalmatian Klapa singing.
Pens are used all around the world, but many people do not know that Croatian Slavoljub Penkala was the inventor of the mechanical pencil. But he is not the only famous inventor from Croatia. Not many words are needed to introduce Nikola Tesla who was born in a small village Smiljan. Make sure you visit his house that is made into a museum when discovering Croatia.
